Details

It's name in Japanese is Mizusashi , a covered freshwater jar used in the Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu). It holds the clean water used to replenish the iron kettle (kama) and to rinse the tea bowls

As the first utensil brought into the tearoom and the last to leave, it serves as a central aesthetic anchor for the gathering. Mizusashi are typically crafted from ceramics—such as Shigaraki, Bizen, or Oribe wares—but can also be made of lacquerware, wood, or metal. They feature either a matching ceramic lid or a custom-fitted black lacquered wooden lid (turu-buda).

Nowadays this water jar can be used to store tea leaves,  noodles, or spices, as a way to retain its aesthetic value.
