This attractive little Louis XVI style “sauteuse” chest of drawers, in veneered wood, blends inlaid marquetry decoration and a 'Breche d'Alep' marble top. This 'transitional' style commode features 2 deep and wide drawers, with intricately inlaid frames on each drawer front. The centre-front projection features marquetry design surrounding flower bouquet inlay theme, Breche d'Alep marble is a particularly rare and attractive , which was extracted from quarries in the Bouches-du-Rhône area of southern France in the 18th century. It was very popular at the time, and is still found in many fine French residences, including in the Château de Chantilly.
Beautiful inlay cant go without the embellishment of brass handles and brass feet, this piece is a fine statement of French furniture aethetics. It surely makes a statement of guiet luxury in modern home.
